Where do you Go?

What’s that you say?

Why, Smokey’s of course. We’ll be there for our usual Wednesday meeting tomorrow at 8pm. If you’re new to Go then feel free to drop by and we can show you how to play.

Last Wednesday was our AGM where we elected our new committee for the year:
Kevin (Auditor)
Barry (Vice-Auditor)
Dylan (Treasurer)
Art (Secretary)

All four members are very determined people and are driven to make sure the society provides the very best Go playing environment for all our members.

Turnout was poor for our Thursday meeting in the Asian Lounge. Still, those of us that turned up had some fun playing Go, Chess and Scrabble. We tried our best with the Irish for a while but quickly reverted back to English again. Oh well. We might try meeting there another time on a Thursday if people are still interested. I’ll let ye know though.

See you all tomorrow,

Kevin

Come and Go!

Hello everyone.

We’ll be having our regular meeting this week at the usual time. That’s tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8pm in Smokey’s. I’ll be hanging around showing people how to play, so if you haven’t come along to one of our meetings yet and you’d like to learn please come along tomorrow. This meeting will also double as our AGM where we will be electing the committee for this academic year.

We’ll also be having a second meeting this week. This will be on Thursday at 8pm in the Asian Tea Lounge on Mary Street. If you have a little Irish you’ll be encouraged to use it, but this isn’t a necessity of course. Chess Soc will be at both these meetings also, because sometimes a game of chess is ok too.

Well, see ye tomorrow AND Thursday,

Kevin

Hey! Ho! Let’s Go!

Hi everyone.

I hope you all enjoyed Socs Day. We met loads of nice people at our stand who seem interested in playing Go.

We had our latest edition of Knight’s Atari hot off the presses. Barry was enthralled with some of the Go puzzles to be found inside:

Our edible Go stones went down a treat. Unfortunately, I was unable to trick anyone into accidentally swallowing some real stones. Most people seem to agree that this would be dangerous but anyway we were quite close to MedSoc, and I’m sure they all have first aid.

Later, we all enjoyed ourselves at our first meeting of the year in Smokey’s:

If you haven’t been to Go Soc yet and you’d like to play, please come along. Beginners are always welcome and we’re in Smokey’s pretty much every Wednesday from 8pm onwards.

In other news, our meeting next Wednesday will double as our AGM where we will vote in the committee for the rest of the year. If you’d like a position on the committee make sure to come along or register your interest with me beforehand.

Knight’s Atari, our monthly newsletter in conjunction with Chess Soc is now online! It’s website is here. Here you can find the latest edition of the newsletter in case you’ve missed it, along with previous editions.

Time to Go

Hi everyone. As I’m sure most of you are aware, last years wonderful auditor Tom has left us to move back home to Cork. He did a great job running the society last year and we wish him all the best in his go playing future with our good friends (and bitter rivals) down in UCC.

Ok, now dry your eyes and forget about Tom, I’m your auditor now. I know you’ve missed us over the summer but we’re back in action again, starting next week. Wednesday is Societies day and we’ll have a stand there of course, so make sure to drop by for a quick game if you’re around. In fact, if you’d like to volunteer a little of your time to sit at our table and help spread the wonders of Go to the NUIG community that would be very much appreciated. Just contact me at gosoc@socs.nuigalway.ie.

We will also be starting our regular meetings up again on Wednesday, at the same time and venue we did last year. So we’ll be meeting regularly on Wednesdays at 8 in Smokey’s from now on. I hope to see you all there next week.

Kevin
